What is Thought Leadership? How to Stay on Your Target Markets Shortlist

What is Thought Leadership? How to Stay on Your Target Markets Shortlist

By now most of us have heard of the term “Thought Leadership”, yet very few still know what it really means. With all the definitional dispersion around the phrase, as a starting point it’s usually very worthwhile to define just what thought leadership is and, sometimes more importantly, what thought leadership is not.

2nd Version How to Get an ROI at a Large Trade Show #ATA2012 #HIMSS

I am doing a quick recap of this post from yesterday, as I accidentally deleted it from the blog…  SORRY
PRE-SET MEETINGS!  That’s the name of the game at large trade shows.  I shared yesterday of a client that was a fortune 500 company with a new presence in healthcare. There was a new marketing director in place tasked with building out the healthcare division.  A few years ago she went to the 50 sales reps to see how many had preset meetings.  You would be shocked to know that the average was less than 2 per rep. Some reps were seasoned and some were not. The goal was that all reps had to have at least 10 preset meetings to come back to HiMSS the following year.  Their top rep did not get the 10 meetings and was made an example of the next year.  That rep was not allowed to come to HiMSS.  This year each rep had on average of 35 meetings!  The moral of the story is that HiMSS was a huge success for them this year.  If you are in charge of selling/business development, please go out of your way and set some preset meetings if you have not already done so!

Happy Selling!

Orion Health- Southern California #HIE with 4.1 Million Residents Multiple Stake Holders Buy in

I like that this HIE got multiple stake holders buy-in.  21 Hospitals and a total of 48 organizations involved.  Too often I hear that it is hard to get buy in from multiple stakeholders.  If you are working on setting up an HIE I would like to hear how you overcome the obstacle of getting multiple stakeholders buy in.

BIG DATA - Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to create a new startup, QI Healthcare

It’s no secret that Business Intelligence or “BIG DATA” is on everyone’s mind right now.  In a recent Forbes article Deputy CIO Martin Peuker said that more than 700 hospital employees have access to a central data warehouse.  This gives access to all data that is needed to measure results and provide better care. It also saves hours upon hours of work.  This has led to universities and hospitals creating their own start ups that can solve their problems.  Another startup was Health Care DataWorks developed and Ohio State University. Here are links for the articles.  If you are not integrating a solution to solve the challenges of measuring BIG DATA into your portfolio maybe you should now… If you are not integrating a BI solution into your portfolio maybe you should now…

Getting IT Decision Makers Buy-in at HIMSS

It’s no secret that you have to pitch the loop these days and get everyone’s buy in. I read an interesting report that says physicians use mobile devices in their personal life, but it’s hard to get IT’s buy in a hospital setting.  If you are going to HIMSS please make sure that you have set plenty of pre-set meetings with CIO’s (IT Decision Makers).  The decision makers are going to be at HIMSS, but typically will not walk up to your booth for you to sell them.  Start from the top and work your way down.  Essentially: “pitch the loop”.  This will help you to get your product implemented and not just talked about!

If you would like to join a dinner we are hosting at HIMSS please let me know.  You can see the current attendees to our dinner below.

Content for Lead Generation

Is content the best way to drive leads?  I think the major trend here is YES!  You then have to ask yourself how you exactly do this.  Have you ever done a price comparison sheet to your competitors and then handed it to your client?  Do you think in this economy a pool company could be thriving, me either, but with content marketing you can. Check out this article from Entrepreneur that talks about some creative ways to leverage content you might not even of know you had.

Vendors on Buying Spree: first 12 days of 2012 to at least 10 deals.

HealthDataManagement Article - Vendors on Buying Spree

CEO's must ask if now is the time to cash in the company and sell.  I think it all depends on where you are at in your career and if you are ready to retire or not.  You could definitely make a good buck if the deal is structured right and in your favor, but I think we have not seen the peak yet and as Marc Probst, CIO of Intermountain, “It’s a great time to be in healthcare”.   If we keep striking deals like this through 2012 it will be interesting to see who becomes a competitor or partner in 2012

Tackling Gate Keepers

Einstein said it best.  Simple is easy, less is more, and don’t make things so complicated.  Usually easier said than done!  When tackling gate keepers, remember that’s it’s their job to only let "certain" people though the door.  So what’s the trick?  I say be their friend.  Be nice. Just think of Wall Street, the original, how did Charlie Sheen get through the gate keeper – Be Persistent & Be Nice!
